Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book seeks to elucidate Menander's Epitrepontes, Perikeiromene, and Samia by analyzing their respective fragments in tandem. Drawing on recent discoveries of these fragments in Oxyrhynchus, the author presents several new hypotheses. Focusing on the Epitrepontes, he maintains that lines 1â"5 cited in KÃ rte belong to a different scene to lines 6â"14. The former, he suggests, are part of a conversation between Smikrines and his daughter Pamphile, while the latter come from a scene involving Chairestratos. Through rigorous analysis of the newly discovered fragments, the author pieces together a captivating narrative. He identifies the names of two previously unknown characters, situates various scenes, and further argues that the first act of the play was longer than previously thought. With its in-depth analysis and compelling new theories, this book sheds fresh light on Menander's masterpiece.
