The text is particularly relevant for those who may find themselves in a situation where they need to provide first aid to a person with a life-threatening wound, especially in the military or for sailors at sea. The author, a former naval surgeon, explains the locations of the body's arteries and where pressure can be applied to stop bleeding in both the upper and lower limbs. The text also provides instructions on the proper use of tourniquets and other tools to stop life-threatening situations. The author's insights aim to provide readers with the tools to avoid potentially fatal situations for those suffering severe bleeding.
