It offers a detailed examination of over 70 Latin manuscripts dating from before the 12th century, an extraordinary number for any collection. Alongside these are Greek, Oriental, history, and science manuscripts, as well as the works of old French and Italian poets. The author provides a wealth of information on the history of each manuscript, its physical characteristics, and its significance within the broader context of art history and the development of literature and science. This collection provides a unique insight into the origins of writing as well as the preservation of ancient knowledge.
