This book narrates the life of the devout Catholic priest who became known as Blessed John of Avila (1500-1569), a contemporary of Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order. Known as the Apostle of Andalusia for his fervent preaching, Avila inspired the conversion and later canonization of many Catholic saints of the period. The author consulted extensive source material, including Avila's letters and writings, along with contemporary accounts, to present a detailed biography of this man whose life and influential teachings still resonate today. In addition to his missionary work, Avila led an ascetic life of solitude, which included self-mortification and other forms of penance. His personal writings on prayer and meditation are also explored within the book. Avila's story and the record of his spiritual struggles and triumphs will be a source of inspiration and edification for many readers.
