He reminisces about his greatest wins, on horses such as Thormanby, the winner of the 1860 Derby. Custance was the stable jockey for Matthew Dawson and James Merry at Russley, and rode some outstanding horses owned by the legendary sportsman and ironmaster. During his colorful career, Custance rode for many notable owners and became famous for his riding style. His recollections provide an entertaining and informative insight into a pivotal period in the history of horse racing.
