The code sought to address emergent elements of the Egyptian legal system that were inherited from both Ottoman and continental European legal traditions. Various legal actors that would be central to the enforcement of this law are outlined, including the role of the parquet and the delegating powers of judges and examining magistrates. This book provides researchers with an indispensable overview of the development of criminal procedure in 20th century Egypt, and an insight into the mechanisms by which domestic legal systems evolved during an era of Western imperial expansion.
