Told by Ian Hamilton, who played a leading part in the events, this is the story of the removal of the Coronation Stone, more often called the Stone of Destiny, from Westminster Abbey in December 1950. The stone was brought back to Scotland and Arbroath Abbey, where the Declaration of Independence was sworn in 1320. Ian Hamilton first published this book under the title 'No Stone Unturned' in 1952. In this edition he has changed little but added two chapters at the end to bring the story up to date and rewritten two early chapters. The book is bound in the original red boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends and slight cocking to the spine. The contents are tight and clean with a little light foxing on the endpapers and a small mark on the fore edge of the text block. There is no inscription. The clipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with slight fading to the spine and bumping to the spine ends. The contents are secure and clean with no inscription.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1991. 203pp. B&W illustrations. The unclipped dust jacket has some light shelf wear with rubbing to the corner tips and bumping to top of spine. Both book and jacket are otherwise in very good condition. All contents are tight and clean. There are no inscriptions. "Ian Hamilton was an unknown law student at Glasgow University until Christmas Eve 1950. On that night, assisted by Alan Stewart, Gavin Vernon, and Kay Matheson, he took the Stone of Destiny from beneath the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey and in doing so became a Scottish national hero. But this is not simply a book about a caper that made the news. It is a book about how a nation's conscience was pricked and how a simple symbolic act can change the way people think, act, and regard themselves for the rest of their lives.".
