Añadir al carritoHardcover. Small 4to. Blue cloth with silver lettering, pictorial dust jackets. v, 158pp; v, 187pp. Illustrations. Fine/near fine. Both jackets show the most minor of age toning only. Superb and tight first editions of the first two volumes only (out of three) of this compilation of hard-to-find primary sources. This set bears two fine, choice additions: Tipped in facing each title page as frontispieces are Civil War-era steel-engraved portraits of two leading Union and Confederate figures. In the first volume is a superb full-length seated portrait of George G. Meade in uniform seated before his command tent with a sea of tents in the background; his facsimile signature appears below. Fine print notes Johnson, Fry & Co. of New York as publishers and the year as 1864. In the second volume is an outstanding head-and-shoulders portrait of Robert E. Lee in uniform, oval within a rectangle, and while year of publication is not noted the publisher is D. Appleton & Co. of New York. Volume I is limited to 750 copies, Volume II to 500 copies.
