Soft cover. Condición: Fine. First Edition. Gift inscribed by the author on title page. Ray Ward 's dramatic March Into The Endless Mountains 1778: The Beginnings of War on the Frontier of America, reconstructs the dramatic story of two cultures in clash and the adventures of a double spy who almost changed American history. War…d describes in vivid detail the battles spreading amid the mountains and along the Susquehanna River, westernmost boundary of Colonial settlement. Herein, much as are interwoven the strands of a tapestry, the author weaves a tapestry of unfolding events, narrating the loves, tragedies, espionage and yes, terror that prevailed. The war is seen from several perspectives, Indian, Tory, frontiersman, and those with divided loyalty. All major characters are drawn from real life, including the beautiful Seneca Queen Esther Montour of French and Indian descent, and Mohawk Chief Joseph Brant, college educated, who led the warring Indian nations.About the Author The credentials of Ray Ward have well prepared him for writing this reconstructed history of the Revolutionary War during the year 1778. Colonel Ward, who lives in the region he describes, ably calls upon his knowledge and writing skills to sketch the effects of intrigue and warfare, and the terror produced, as these applied to the northerly settlements along the Susquehanna River. Ward graphically demonstrates this as he delineates the clash of cultures during those turbulent times. He demonstrates how one man almost changed history. Ray is a member of the Cornell University "War Class of '43" where he trained in infantry tactics, later to serve in the USAAF, subject of his five-star rated book Those Brave Crews. He is a member of the prestigious Authors Guild. Ray was editor of the University's Literary Quarterly and was a founder of the Cornell Radio Guild, student radio network, writing radio documentaries broadcast coast-to-coast on NBC and CBS. After WW II Ray continued his studies, graduating from the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management conducted at the University of Delaware. He is a life member of the Association of Graduates United States Air Force Academy. Ward is listed as a pioneer helicopter pilot, prior to the end of hostilities having flown the first model Army helicopter, the R-4, displayed at the USAF Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB. He first cut his teeth in journalism as a reporter of a country weekly that won first prize for its class among New York papers. He moved on to be, at age 18, acting bureau chief, employed by Gannett's oldest daily newspaper. Later, offered the position to head up the South American desk of the Office of War Information, instead he entered war service. Ward served under three governors of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the Centennial of the Civil War. He interacted with the executive director of the State Museum & Historical Commission in developing programs of inte. Signed by Author(s).
