An association copy, signed by co-editor Shirley Sargent on an affixed label with the printed inscription: "May 1, 1985, For Ann, who listened, encouraged, proof read, and numbered!" This is number 33 (numbered by Ann!) of 750 copies. Signing typed… labels was Shirley Sargent's usual mode, it would seem because her handwriting (from other samples we've seen) was actually very tough verging on impossible to read. Her labels suggest a level of advanced thoughtfulness and have a certain charm. The recipient was likely?Ann Matteson who is thanked in the acknowledgments; she was a devoted outdoorswoman and denizen of many National Parks, finally Yosemite (one notes her son was named Muir). Sargent was a prolific historian of Yosemite. Her bestselling book was?John Muir in Yosemite National Park?(1972), but she published on many facets of the park and its history via her own Flying Spur Press. A very good plus book with some subtle waviness to the upper corner of the text block and light soiling/staining to upper text block face, otherwise fine in green cloth with gold lettering; in a good only jacket that is heavily dampstained and wrinkled (accounting for that slight waviness). A nice association in spite of these these imperfections.
