The Nuclear Freeze campaign was a mass movement in the United States during the 1980s intended to place political pressure on the United States and the Soviet Union to mutually freeze the testing, production, and deployment of nuclear weapons. The movement is based on a memorandum titled "Call to Halt the Nuclear Arms Race," and it quickly gained grassroots support. The movement went on to have limited national success despite criticism from many, including President Ronald Reagan, but ultimately lost momentum due to various proposals put forth by Reagan.
