Brown (1923-1983) was brought up on a sheep run in Central Otago, worked as a deer-culler and was later to journey repeatedly to the Urewera country of the North island. Out of these experiences much of the particular character of Brown's poetry emerged. That poetry was an essential tool in his coming to terms with life. He began writing whilst an orchardist in Tauranga and went on, though a late starter, to progressively refine his powerful style until his last years in Thames. This book is a posthumous collection compiled by one of the poet's sons, artist Nigel Brown.
