"Chapters 1-5, 8, and 9 originally appeared in Taking Game Fish (The Crossing Press, 1980) and have been carefully reviewed and updated for this edition. Many of the illustrations in this book are based on original artwork by Gordon L. Eggleston that appeared in Taking Game Fish." "Gamefish" here means large- and smallmouth bass, walleyes, northern pike, carp, trout, and landlocked Atlantic salmon. Chapters include: Largemouth bass basics; Tackle, tips, and techniques for smallmouth bass; Fishing for the wiley walleye; Trophy northerns and how to take them; Garpin' for carp; Introduction to fly-fishing; Streamer seasons; Nymph fishing to surface-feeding trout; Landlocks in a nutshell; Deep-water trolling; Getting kids started in fishing; Dream trips. Contributors include Bill Butler, Gordon L. Eggleston, J. Michael Kimball, Capt. Ernie Lantiegne, Todd Swainbank and Eric Seidler. "Landlocked Atantic salmon are being returned to the glacial lakes of New York, New England, and Canada. They are quickly regaining their status as the finest game fish native to the fresh waters of the Northeast, eclipsing in angler esteem the introduced species. An early victim of damming, deforestation, and overfishing, the landlock had almost faded from memory in many areas, leaving traces of its former ubiquity only in the profusion of "Salmon Creeks" and "Salmon Rivers" entering lakes throughout its original range. At one time, Lake Ontario grew landlocks to 45 pounds." So, probably worth investigating by now. .
