Añadir al carritoHard Back. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket As Published. First Rio Grande Press Printing. 178 Pages. This book is a very high quality reproduction printing of the of the J.B. Lippincott Company 1929 release. The photo offset printing negatives were taken from the first edition with the cooperation of the New Mexico State Library in Santa Fe. In the first edition the art plates were printed in color and hand-tipped into position but even in 1971 that process could not economically be repeated. However four of the color plates were reproduced and printed on the endpapers. These same plates are repeated in black and white in their proper sequence within the book. Author painter Frank Applegate was born in Illinois, attended the University and had considerable training in the Philadelphia Academy of fine Arts as well as the Julian Academy of Art in Paris. He came to New Mexico in the 1920s when many other gifted artists and writers were moving to Taos and Santa Fe. The author, by long experience and tremendous empathy, wrote from the Indian viewpoint, a rare achievement for a non-Indian. This is a beautiful original condition copy of a Rio Grand Classic. Contents in 17 Chapters: Ancestral Eagles, The Snke Priest's Trousers, The Artists and the Snakes, San Juan de los Caballeros, Hopi Quarrel, a Hopi Affair, Ago Po, The Little Fish of San Juan, The Holy Water, Turtle Shells, Cochiti Ancient Hunding Dance, the Hopi Famine, The Turk of Pecos, Estevan the Magnificent, Parrot Feathers, Montezuma, and the Twelve Virgins of Pecos. Plus Preface and a Foreword by Witteer Bynner. List of Seven Illustrations: Indian Game Animals - Frontispiece, Green Corn Dance, The Skunks, Spring Planting Dancers, The Dog Dance, Cochiti Ancient Hunting Dance, and The Mountain Lion Pursuing a Deer. Please Note - This book is identical in every way to the 1977 McRae Publications release except for the title and copyright pages and the boards. The boards on this edition are white with red lettering and decorations.
