Añadir al carritoPaperback small quarto, very good condition, black & cream text-photos, colour photos, minor edgewear. 102 pp. Rom is a 'ritual of diplomacy' of the Anbarra people, Arnhem Land, being a series of ceremonies when meeting neighbouring communities that includes presenting visitors with a decorated totem. The first Rom ceremony to be performed outside Arnhem Land was held at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies in Canberra in November 1982. The songs, dances, and artifacts that are part of Rom are described and accompanied by colour photos. Also involved was an exhibition of bark paintings and craft work that now has been purchased by the National Museum of Australia. All of the paintings reproduced in this book are closely related to the themes of the Rom ritual performed in Canberra. This book is a catalogue of this exhibition in addition to the ethnographic and historical material on the Anbarra people and their country, including meeting with Maccassan fishermen. (Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies, New Series, no 59. Edited by Stephen Wild.).
