Hard Cover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. New issue of 6 Revised ed edition (3 Sept. 1970). Introduction by General Erik Wickberg. Dust jacket complete, unclipped, wear and rubbed to edges. Original cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. Name on f. paste down. Attached to ffep is a reproduction in colour of the illustrated broadsheet which appeared in the original edition and depicted pictorially what General Booth had to say in words. 316 pages clean and tight. The original edition has been faithfully reproduced, even to the advertisements of Salvation Army publications of the last century. William Booth (1829-1912) known as General Booth, founder of the Salvation Army wrote In Darkest England and the Way Out with the assistance of W.T. Stead (1849-1912) who began the Review of Reviews and had been the influential editor of the Pal/Mall Gazette. The book created a sensation when it first appeared in 1890. It revealed the stark poverty of the 'dim millions'and suggested ways in which that poverty could be alleviated. History shows how much William Booth achieved, but the problems of the 1 9th century are very relevant to the problems of today, and General Wickberg points out in his introduction 'there is another poverty today'. Size: 8vo.
