Full information where further reading and visiting is available. ## ## NEEDLEWORK TOOLS: As manufactured goods gradually replaced home-made articles, ladies developed crafts such as needlework, which had previously been an essential skill for making clothing, to occupy their increased leisure time. A wide variety of tools and other accessories were used in needlework, and a growing number of people are becoming interested in these objects and collecting them. Indeed, some items are now quite hard to find. Improvements in travel encouraged the growth of tourism and thus stimulated the production of souvenirs for tourists; some souvenirs took the form of needlework accessories, an important proportion of today's collector's items. This book illustrates over two hundred needlework tools and related objects and briefly describes how they are used. It concentrates on the types most frequently encountered by collectors today, including those found in work boxes.
