Unpretentious and yet cooly sophisticated, the work is marked by its tendency toward serene composition and a subtle color palette, by rooms that embody meditative understatement and yet demonstrate an appreciation for utility and comfort. Generously embracing both the period and the modern, significant objects and simple ones, furniture he finds and furniture he designs, Hayes' interiors are wonderful demonstrations of aesthetic sensitivity to nuance and style".
