Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Dynamic Light and Shade; by Burne Hogarth; Watson-Guptill Publications, New York, 1981. First printing. Burne Hogarth (born Spinoza Bernard Ginsburg),(1911 1996), was an American artist and educator, best known for his work on the Tarzan newspaper comic strip and his series of anatomy books for artists. Almost as long as he was a professional artist, Hogarth was a teacher. Over the years, he was an instructor of drawing to a variety of students at a number of institutions, and by 1944 Hogarth had in mind a school for returning World War II veterans. The Manhattan Academy of Newspaper Art was Hogarth's first formal effort, and by 1947 he had transformed it into the Cartoonists and Illustrators School. This academy continued to grow, and in 1956 was again renamed, as the School of Visual Arts (SVA), now one of the world's leading art schools. During his years teaching, Hogarth authored a number of anatomy and drawing books. Dynamic Anatomy (1958) and Drawing the Human Head (1965) were followed by further investigations of the human form. Dynamic Figure Drawing (1970) and Drawing Dynamic Hands (1977) completed the figure cycle. Dynamic Light and Shade (1981) (this book) and Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery (1995) explored other aspects relative to rendering the figure. In this book, Hogarth illustrates every effect of light and shade with brilliant drawings in pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and brush and ink, encouraging the reader to experiment with diverse drawing media. There are 224 black and white illustrations in the book. This large format book, 160 pages measuring 277mm X 205mm, is in near-fine condition. Inside the front cover someone has written the date Nov 24, 1982.The dust jacket is also in near-fine condition and is now in a protective mylar wrap. A well made and fascinating volume.
