The Golden Age of American poster design was brief but brilliant, calling on the talents of the best-known artists of the day. The heyday of the poster was the last decade of the 19th century, when the poster came into its own as the perfect advertising medium, touting plays, periodicals, patent medicines, and a vast array of newfangled manufactured goods from bicycles to dynamite. The American poster artists and their work are brought together in this lavishly illustrated volume. Some of the pioneers of American graphic design who contributed to the American poster renaissance are Bradley, Penfield, Parrish, Leyendecker, Gibson, Sloan, Bird, Bragdon, Carqueville, Gould, Hazenplug, Mayer, Nankivell, Reed, Rhead, and Woodbury, to name just a few.
