Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition (along with Number Line to 1). This book was previously owned by Matthew Bronfman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the son of prominent businessman and philanthropist Edgar Bronfman, Sr. Once listed, this will be the Only copy for sale on the Internet that is signed by both authors (which in this case is perhaps particularly special for its symbolic value). It will also be the only copy that is signed by Yosef Reinman, in fact the only signed copy of any of his books, including the 12 of the Ruach Ami series that he authored. Both signed inscription's are on the title page. The first reads 'Matthew: Thank you for your support and leadership of this wonderful institution, Ammiel Hirsch.' The second reads 'For Matthew Bronfman, For the sake of truth, Yosef Reinman.' I've provided a photograph of the signed title page. As you can see from the photos, the orange and black covers are exceptionally clean and in very good condition. The corners and edges are in very solid shape. The spine ends have just a little bit of crinkling. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. In scrolling through, I didn't find any instances of soiling. That includes the white inside covers and end papers. I did find four consecutive pages with a top corner crease. I didn't see any other creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the signed inscriptions, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is exceptionally clean. There are no tears. I've had the jacket in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. The flaps are in excellent condition as well, very clean, no conspicuous wear. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. Here are a few brief reviews/blurbs from the back of the jacket: ''In an age when conversations among Jewish leaders of diverse denominations are increasingly strident, Hirsch and Reinman provide a model of exemplary interaction and discussion. Each displays passion and considerable knowledge, and the reader will learn a great deal about the commitments and convictions that mark diverse precincts in the Jewish religious community. Most important, the reader will see the discourse among Jews that can be civil even when disagreements exist.''--- Rabbi David Alanson, President, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. And ''A fascinating, intelligent, warm and human, yet disturbing dialogue between two thoughtful personalities, highlighting the enormous gulf that separates the understanding of Judaism in the Orthodox world and the Reform camp. Remarkably free of polemics, the book lays bare why one people are really two different worlds."--- Rabbi Berel Wein, author of 'Faith and Fate: The Story of the Jews in the Twentieth Century.' And also from the dust jacket: 'After being introduced by a mutual friend in the winter of 2000, Reform Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch and Orthodox Rabbi Yosef Reinman embarked on an unprecedented eighteen-month e-mail correspondence on the fundamental principles of Jewish faith and practice. What resulted is this book: an honest, intelligent, no-holds- barred discussion of virtually every "hot button" issue on which Reform and Orthodox Jews differ, among them the existence of a Supreme Being, the origins and authenticity of the Bible and the Oral Law, the role of women, assimilation, the value of secular culture, and Israel.' Matthew Bronfman is the chairman of the international steering committee of Limmud FSU, a program focused on strengthening the Jewish identities of Russian-speaking Jews, and the chairman of the American Jewish Committee's ACCESS, which trains Jewish professionals to shape public opinion and policy around the world.
