The rest of the book is written as a chronological survey of the growth and development of the archives of central and local government, the church, and other institutions. References are given concerning the whereabouts of material, its usefulness for local studies, and the range of finding aids which can be used to exploit it. The author has also written "Local History: a Handbook for Beginners". The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
