Dr Course has set out to compile a record (with many of the photographs taken by himself or from his collection many of which are published here for the first time) of the past that has long been obliterated: a station where trains once thundered through that is now someone's home, a complete section of a once busy line that is now a quiet footpath, water cranes for steam locomotives, street tramways and narrow gauge pleasure railways that have disappeared or have been revived - and also of the past that is still there for the observant enquirer to see. There are 272 evocative photographs illustrating chapters that are arranged geographically by region. This copy is in FINE condition in a FINE unclipped dustwrapper having been kept in a glass fronted book case in a smoke free home. Ref M1.
