The author also chronicles the life and work of Josiah Wedgwood, the man responsible for making English ceramics competitive with such great European factories as Meissen and Sèvres, and who is, of course, still a household name. He therefore discusses a number of the most usual items from this period, such as pot lids and transfer printed ware. The text is supplemented by over a hundred black-and-white pictures as well as twenty-four in colour.
