Hardcover. First Ed USA, so stated. First Ed USA, so stated. Near Fine in Near Fine DJ: Both book and DJ show only minute indications of use. Book shows foxing at the outer top edge; a small, very faint smudge at the rear panel; binding shows barely discernible lean, but remains perfectly secure; text clean. DJ shows very mild rubbing; price unclipped; mylar-protected. Overall, very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 202pp. Hardback with DJ. Dennis Christopher George Potter (17 May 1935 7 June 1994) was an English television dramatist, screenwriter and journalist.Beginning with contributions to BBC television's The Wednesday Play anthology series from 1965, he peaked with The Singing Detective (1986), a BBC TV serial for which he is best remembered. This work and many of his other widely acclaimed television dramas mixed fantasy and reality, the personal and the social and often used themes and images from popular culture. A sufferer from psoriatic arthropathy for most of his adult life, Potter made regular public pronouncements on issues dear to him. Hide and Seek (1973) was a meta-fictional novel exploring the relationship between reader and author and contains a central protagonist, 'Daniel Miller', who is convinced he is the plaything of an omniscient author. This concept forms the core of Potter's next two novels, and portions of Hide and Seek would reappear in several of his television plays (most notably Follow the Yellow Brick Road and The Singing Detective, respectively).Ticket to Ride (1986) was written between drafts of The Singing Detective and concerns a herbithologist who is unable to make love to his wife unless he imagines her as a prostitute. I couldn't put it down. You have to really follow it, a few times I had to go back and read a chapter again. I like movies and books that make you think and keep you wondering. I've never read a book like this before. It was like reading a long poem intertwined with a novel.I think there could be different interpretations to the ending.

DESCRIPTION - 'A man cannot stay forever on his hands and knees in a wet park in the middle of London, howling and moaning and talking to himself. Sooner or later, someone is going to object.' Johnhe thinks that's his nameis living in an enforced constant present tense, watching himself as if in a story travel through the vilest parts of a large city, heading for some mission, preparing to kill. He can feel his mind unraveling. He is looking for a girl named Penny, and waiting for his brain to tell him what to do when he finds her. John's wife Helen, who looks rather like Penny, is living in the country. She is depressed because her husband has left her, bored with suburban life, and somehow she too is quite capable of murder. At a crucial moment, local lover- boy Martin comes to call. Ticket to Ride poses in details of growing horror the violence of a degenerating mind, and the equally horrifying degeneration of a marriage. Short, powerful, and compelling, it is a chilling and unforgettable mystery. inventory #9786.
