Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. The 'Blue Peter' Book of Teddy's Clothes [First Edition, 1969] Authors: Biddy Baxter, Edward Barnes, Rosemary Gill Ideas by: Margaret Parnell Photography: Charles E. Walls Publisher: BBC Books, London Publication Date: March 1969 (First Edition) ISBN: 0563084189 / 9780563084181 Forma…t: Hardcover, pictorial glazed boards (no dust jacket issued) Pages: 28 pages Size: Approx. 20 x 15 cm (small format "Mini Book") Condition: Very Good A charming and highly nostalgic first edition of The 'Blue Peter' Book of Teddy's Clothes, published by the BBC in 1969. This delightful craft book features the iconic Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton demonstrating how to make a variety of outfits for a teddy bear, including the wonderfully photographed cover image of her with "Teddy the Pirate" (striped shirt, red bandana, eye patch, pink trousers, and treasure chest). The book provides step-by-step instructions, materials lists, black-and-white diagrams, and full-colour photographs for creating outfits such as: Teddy the Pirate (with sword, ear-ring, and treasure chest) Teddy Joins the Cub Scouts (knitted jersey, shorts, cap, scarf, and camp fire) Teddy Goes to Mexico (knitted sombrero and outfit) Wild West Teddy (cowboy shirt, waistcoat, trousers, holster) Flying Officer Bear (complete flying suit, life jacket, helmet with "bone dome," and goggles) Perfect for teddy bear enthusiasts, doll dressmakers, vintage craft lovers, and fans of classic Blue Peter. The instructions are clear, practical, and designed for children and adults alike, with tips for sizing to fit an average 12-inch teddy. About the Authors & Contributors Biddy Baxter (1933-2025) was the legendary editor and producer of Blue Peter from 1965 to 1988. Often credited with shaping the programme into the cultural institution it became, she introduced many of its most enduring features, including the Blue Peter badge, the appeals, and the emphasis on creative "makes." This book is one of several spin-off titles she co-authored during the Valerie Singleton / John Noakes / Peter Purves era. Edward Barnes and Rosemary Gill were key members of the Blue Peter production team, collaborating with Baxter on books and content. Margaret Parnell provided the brilliant craft ideas and patterns. A housewife from Portsmouth, she became Blue Peter's legendary "makes" contributor after sending in her first idea in 1963. She created hundreds of projects for the show over nearly 40 years, embodying the programme's ethos of creativity and resourcefulness. Charles E. Walls was the photographer, capturing the vibrant, colourful images that bring the projects to life alongside Valerie Singleton. This 1969 first printing is a wonderful piece of British television and craft history, evoking the golden age of Blue Peter when "Here's one I made earlier!" became a national catchphrase. Condition Notes Bright pictorial boards with light shelf wear to edges and corners. Clean, bright interior with no inscriptions, markings, or significant foxing, tiny corner piece is snipped off on the first page (please, see the photo). Tight binding. A few minor creases to pages, consistent with age and gentle use. Overall a very attractive example of this scarce title.] A must-have for any Blue Peter collection, teddy bear book collector, or 1960s/70s nostalgia enthusiast. Photography: Charles E. Walls (ilustrador).
