Later sections on the regulation of gene expression and mechanisms of programming developmental information precede a treatment of some practical applications resulting from the study of embryos. Two techniques discussed which are aimed towards the goal of enhancing crop productivity in a dynamic and expanding field are embryo rescue from inviable crosses and preservation of germ plasm.
