A prolific poet James Kirkup was the first Gregory Poetry Fellow at Leeds University and as such he was first resident university poet in the UK. In 1977 Kirkup's poem 'The Love That Dares to Speak Its Name' was published in Gay News and was the subject of Whitehouse v Lemon, the last successful prosecution under the Blasphemy laws in England. Dark turquoise cloth is with gilt titles to spine and gilt Japanese lettering to the front is very clean, neat and bright. Some slight foxing to closed page edges.
