This facsimile edition in 1973 makes it available again for the first time since the original edition, and contains an introductory essay by G. A. Wilkes and G. A. Turnbull about Tompson's life and commentary on the poems. Tompson was of convict descent, and aged only 19 when the book was published. The Australian nationalistic flavour of the poems drew criticism by traditionalists as being disrespectful to the British crown.…
