Hardback. Condición: Good. The John McPhee Reader, first published in 1976, is comprised of selections from the author's first twelve books. In 1965, John McPhee published his first book, A Sense of Where You Are; a decade later, he had published eleven others. His fertility, his precision and grace as a stylist, his wit and uncanny brilliance in choosing subject matter, his crack storytelling skills have made him into one of our best writers: a journalist whom L.E. Sissman ranked with Liebling and Mencken, who Geoffrey Wolff said "is bringing his work to levels that have no measurable limit," who has been called "a master craftsman" so many times that it is pointless to number them.…

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. Stated first printing, near fine in a very good+ dust jacket. Very minor soiling to the page edges. The price clipped jacket has just slight wear at edges. There is a silver dollar-sized dampstain on the interior of the jacket near the spine/front panel crease, and very slight soiling. Unaccountably scarce in the first edition, contains selections from John McPhee's first 12 books, an Introduction by the editor, and a Checklist of all of McPhee's published works to that point; 385 pages.…

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Near Fine. 1st Edition. First printing. An uncommon book in hardcover, and notable for the bibliography of McPhee work it includes. A fine book except that the upper corner of the front free endpaper is clipped; in a near fine jacket on account of one eighth-inch nick at top edge of front panel, otherwise about fine. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in nature writing and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.…

Hardcover. Condición: Near fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. First edition. Signed on the title page by McPhee. Uncommon signed, and an uncommon book in general in hardcover, notable for the bibliography of McPhee work it includes. Edited and with an introduction by his Princeton colleague William Howarth. A very near fine book with some extremely faint browning to pastedowns and some of the front free end papers (hardly noticeable); in a near fine, price-clipped jacket with only a smidge of creasing to edge of spine tail. A very nice copy. We invited you to explore our growing John McPhee collection, one of our specialties. Signed.…

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Inscribed on the half-title page by John McPhee: "For Stephanie Schlant, on the occasion of a fine evening in Denville, Yolanda and John McPhee, 12/19/76." "Yolanda" is in John McPhee's hand. An association copy, inscribed to the stepdaughter of senator/basketball star Bill Bradley, who was of course the subject of McPhee's first book, A Sense of Where You Are. The first twenty pages of this Reader are an excerpt from A Sense of Where You Are. Presumably signed at Bradley's home in Denville, since Stephanie Schlant was a teenager at the time. Very good plus/near fine with a light specking of dust/foxing to the top of the text block, a minor dust smudge to lower text block corner, a few bumps to board edges, and minor softening to a few corners. A near fine jacket with one wrinkle along edge, some fraying to the top of spine, and a minor dampstain to lower spine. Presents very well. An uncommon book in general, and scarce signed. Signed by Author(s). …
