On both his trips he painted and sketched Native Americans, and the more than 100 paintings he completed are still considered invaluable primary source material. He visited Fort Vancouver, Fort Victoria, stayed with the Cowlitz Indian Tribes, hiked on Mt. Saint Helens, visited and described Walla Walla, and much more.
