The history begins with the earliest references to Epsom in the Domesday Book and traces the development of the area through the middle ages, the early modern period, and the 19th and 20th centuries. The author draws on a wide range of sources, including local archives, church records, and contemporary accounts, to provide a detailed and engaging account of Epsom's past. The book is particularly strong in its coverage of the 18th and 19th centuries, when Epsom became a fashionable spa town and a center for horse racing.
