The author presents evidence from a wide range of Pagan sources, including philosophers, poets, and religious texts. The book demonstrates that despite the diversity of Pagan beliefs and practices, there was a common thread running through them: the acknowledgment of one supreme, all-powerful God. This God was often referred to as the "first God" or the "king of the gods," and was believed to be the creator and sustainer of the universe. In addition to this supreme God, the Pagans also believed in a host of lesser deities, who were seen as intermediaries between the divine and the human realms. These lesser gods were often associated with specific aspects of nature or human life, and were worshipped through rituals and sacrifices. The book explores the complex relationship between the supreme God and the lesser deities, and argues that the Pagan understanding of the divine was a sophisticated and nuanced one. It challenges the common perception of Paganism as a primitive and polytheistic religion, and sheds new light on the beliefs and practices of the ancient world.
