The author claims that spiritualism is based on facts and presents it as a religion predicated on love, a science, and a philosophy beyond which there is none higher. The author delineates the history of spiritualism, describing its evolution from earlier movements such as Unitarianism and the philosophies of earlier thinkers including Paine. The author also traces the development of spiritualism up to its present day iteration, addressing objections to it and presenting logical counterarguments in favor of its veracity and value. Of special interest to the author is the idea of the spiritual body as different from the physical body, which reflects a spiritualist understanding of existence and the afterlife beyond the grave, leading the author to conclude that spiritualism, with its emphasis on the continuing nature of life, may be the religion of the future.
