Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book cogently argues that the meanings of words and turns of phrases must be constantly re-evaluated to maintain a high standard of communication and avoid degrading a language. The author draws evidence from the history of the English language, showing that the established ideas of the 18th and 19th centuries regarding grammar, syntax, and sentence structure are often insufficient for clearly expressing the concepts of the present day. They argue that the mind is not unchangeable, and that language, being an idea system within the mind, must therefore also evolve. The book challenges assumptions about the meaning of words, grammar, and syntax. It concludes by making a case for a new understanding of language, one that is more fluid and adaptive to change. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
