This book provides a snapshot of the state of biological thinking in the 1910s, when scientists began questioning Darwinian evolution and sought to determine just how evolution occurs. The author delves into the work of Hugo de Vries, Thomas Hunt Morgan, and other biologists, who challenged the idea of gradual evolution and proposed new theories involving mutations and chromosomal inheritance. Through an examination of the scientific debates of the time, this book sheds light on the development of modern evolutionary theory and the persistent nature of evolution as a topic of scientific inquiry.
