Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes 4-H Club work, a national program which has been highly influential in educating rural youth in agriculture and home economics since the 1920s. The author examines data collected from hundreds of 4-H Club members, former members, and non-members to determine which fa…ctors have the greatest influence on whether or not a child joins a 4-H Club. The author finds that children whose parents are more involved in the community, both socially and professionally, are more likely to join 4-H Clubs. Surprisingly, the author also finds that the popularity of 4-H Clubs varies widely across socioeconomic backgrounds: children from wealthier families are more likely to join than children from poorer families. The book concludes by suggesting that there is more that 4-H Club leaders can do to make the organization more welcoming to all rural youth, including those from less affluent backgrounds or whose parents are less active in community life.
