The author draws on primary sources to reconstruct the historical context in which the two bodies operated, highlighting their conflicting interests and divergent perspectives. The book analyzes the specific incidents and debates that led to the Legislative Council's rejection of several bills proposed by the House of Assembly, examining the reasoning behind these decisions and their implications for the political landscape of the time. The author also explores the broader constitutional issues raised by these conflicts, such as the balance of power between the legislative branches and the role of the Crown in resolving disputes. Through a detailed examination of archival materials, this book sheds light on the complex dynamics of colonial governance and the challenges of establishing a stable and effective parliamentary system in Upper Canada.
