This book presents a series of papyri found by Pierre Jouguet and Gustave Lefebvre in the Magdola cartonnage of Medinet-en-Nahas (Fayoum) in 1902. Through these texts, the author offers a detailed study of the role of the epistates, the judicial organization, and the different phases of the Ptolemaic judicial procedure in Arsinoite nome toward the end of the reign of Euergetes and at the beginning of that of Philopator (222-218 BCE). Coming from various villages, mostly from the Magdola region, and dated with great precision, these papyri (complaints, petitions, summaries) are a unique and rich source of information which shed light on the way ordinary people dealt with the authorities and, more generally, on the functioning of the Ptolemaic institutions in the countryside.
