The author, a canon and dignitary of the cathedral, delved into these records to uncover details about the artisans and artists who contributed to the embellishment of this magnificent edifice. The book provides insights into the evolution of architectural styles, painting techniques, and artistic patronage in Spain from the Gothic period through the Renaissance and beyond. Through meticulous research, the author unveils the names and contributions of individuals who have long been forgotten, such as Luis de Velasco, a painter whose works were previously attributed to Blas de Prado. This book not only sheds light on the artistic heritage of Toledo Cathedral but also enriches our understanding of the broader history of Spanish art and the role of artisans in shaping cultural and religious expression.
