This book delves into the career of Steve Nelson, a Communist Party organizer who rose through the ranks and played a crucial role in the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War. After the war, Nelson became a key figure in the Communist Party's clandestine activities, particularly regarding the development of the atomic bomb during World War II. However, Nelson's activities drew the attention of the authorities, leading to his eventual exposure as a Soviet agent. This book not only provides a detailed account of Nelson's life but also a broader perspective on the history and operations of the Communist Party in the United States during the mid-20th century, exploring the strategies and tactics employed by the organization and its members. The author presents a balanced view, drawing on official documents, interviews, and historical research, allowing readers to understand the complexities of Nelson's story within the larger context of the Cold War era.
