Cook was born in 1728 and rose from the ramnks of the merchant marine and then through the Royal Navy to become the last and greatest of the romantic navigator/explorers. His travels covered mch of the world and brought a new understanding of the world's geography and of the peoples, flora, and fauna of the lands he discovered. He also revolutionized the seaman's diet all but eliminating scurvy. The author traveled to many of the places Cook explored. Proceeds from the sale of this book benefit environmental restoration and education.
