Roberts' concluding section illustrated with plates & cuts. 8vo. 9-1/4" x 5-7/8" A quite informative journal for those interested in the history of dentistry in the United States. In this issue, the co…ntents include: "Twenty Five Days in the Sanitary Commission", "The Deleterious Effects of Vulcanite Rubber upon the Human System", "The Best Material for Artificial Dentures", "Dental Depots and their Uses", "Ancient Cures for the Toothache", "Deaths from Chloroform", &c., &c. Listings on OCLC suggest this a relatively short-lived journal, Vols. 1-5; July 1858 - May 1864, initially published quarterly going to biannually in 1862, with only one library reporting actual physical copies held. Issues of this journal are quite uncommon in the trade, and at the time of cataloguing, we find no others offered for sale. General wear, soiling & age-toning. Stamped 'Sample' at top of front wrapper. Very Good. Original publisher's printed buff paper wrappers. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve.

Book is lightly shaken, all pages age-toned. Previous (original(?) owner has listed the 7 pamphlets' titles on front free endpaper. 12mo full calf with 5 raised…bands and gilt title/decoration to spine compartments. Red leather title label. An exceptionally interesting set of pamphlets, covering several celebrated controversies. (i). The trial between Sir William Morice and Lord Augustus Fitzroy, in respect of the latter's affair with his wife, (ii) Henry Fielding's vindication of the conduct of Sarah Churchill, (iii) Relations between Thomas Hervey and Lady Hanmer, which led to her leaving her husband and after her death Hervey (after a spell in asylum) succeeding to the Hanmer estates, (iv, v) By Colley Gibber, satirised by Pope in 'The Dunciad', in which Gibber berates Pope, (vi) Memoirs of the lives of Lords Kilmarnock, Cromartie and Balmerino, who were beheaded at Tower Hill on 18/8/1746, (vii) An account by James Foster of the behaviour of the Late Earl of Kilmarnock after his sentence and up to the date of his execution. A fascinating insight into the scope and subject matter of mid 18th century pamphlets during the period of the so-called 'Pamphlet Wars', with relevance also to the recent Jacobite uprising.
