HB 320 pp C.350 photographs and illustrations, linen-bound with a protective cover Here the reader can discover new and hitherto unknown facts about the testing and purchasing of motorcycles such as, for example, the background of the development of the Puch 800 and the 350 GS. This means that this work on military motorcycles is at the same time a valuable source of information on the civilian models produced by the Puch Works in Graz. The varied perception of Puch motorcycles by their users is particularly significant. Other Austrian brands (LAG and Delta-Gnom) were unable to make their mark in the Federal Army of the First Republic. In an era of economic hardship and political upheaval, the occasional foreign brand also reached the Federal Army, for example NSU, James, Harley-Davidson and Moto Guzzi. The German motorcycle manufacturer BMW enjoyed unchallenged popularity in Austriaâs military, Police and Gendarmerie forces but Austriaâs motor industry should not be underestimated in its role in the motorisation of the Federal Army. Government policies dictated that domestic production be supported by commissions from the authorities, although it was not unusual for these measures to be circumvented by individual public departments. After 1920 financial straits initially hampered the acquisition of motorcycles for the new Federal Army. Although purchasing despatch motorcycles was relatively unproblematic, the circuitous path to finding a suitable, domestically-produced motorcycle and sidecar combination for military use extended almost as far as Germanyâs âannexationâ of Austria in 1938. In preparation for the writing of this book, the author spent several years researching sources in the Austrian State Archives and the Archives of the Republic, bringing to light some surprising facts. Based on these records a number of deep-seated rumours can now be dispelled. This book offers many new insights into a neglected chapter of Austrian military and motor-vehicle history.Overseas clients please note: Due to excessively high wrapped weight shipping is weighted on this title.

This work provides a detailed picture of the development of German military rifles from the Werder rifle up to the M/71.84. It is based on many years of extensive study in German archives as well as renowned public and private collections and is thus able to dispel a number of myths and details based on little more than hearsay, replacing them with sound knowledge. The text is accompanied and supported by more than 900 original contemporary photographs, reproductions of documents and high quality colour photographs of existing items, including hundreds of details in close-up. Many of the objects, weapons and accessories are shown here for the first time. The result is a largely new portrayal, built on a broad base of primary sources, of the development of German long arms in the years after 1870, which is bound to remain the standard work on the subject for the foreseeable future. This volume describes German military rifles of 11 mm calibre. Their common feature was that they fired cartridges with metal cases and black powder as their propellant. In Germany, it was Bavaria that was at the forefront of this development, with the M/69 rifle, also known as the Werder rifle. The reader will discover how this weapon was developed, produced and used, the problems which arose, how they were solved and how the rifle was finally taken out of service. Naturally all the variations, the accessories and the ammunition are also described in detail andshown in photographs. The M/71 and M/71.84 rifles are dealt with in the same way and for the first time the Chassepot rifles used in the German Imperial Army are comprehensively presented. The time frame extends to the end of the First World War, since many black powder weapons were still used, mainly for training purposes, up to 1918.This book also covers the weapons of the police and Gendarmerie, so readers interested in the history of Germanyâs police force will also find much new information. The second volume on the M/88 and M/91 rifle and carbine, will complete the portrayal of the long arms of the German Empire that began with the book on the M/98 rifle and carbine.Overseas clients please note: Due to excessively high wrapped weight shipping is weighted on this title.

Añadir al carritoCondición: New. HB 400 pp approx. 750 colour photographs, contemporary B&W photographs and illustrations, bound in linen with a protective cover. The introduction of a new, more powerful powder and the corresponding weapons took place under enormous time pressure so it was inevitable that there would be initial teething problems with these new products, which were not yet fully developed. There are, to this day, many notions regarding these problems that are either unclear or inaccurate. Like the 1st volume, this book is based on the extensive study of Germanyâs archival material and on extant pieces in public and private collections, which has made it possible to present a detailed reconstruction of the actual circumstances. The 88 model weapons went through two periods of usage: the first began with the hasty rearmament of the German armies around 1890 and ended with the introduction of the 98 models in the years leading up to 1914. It was during the First World War, when a serious shortage of firearms made itself felt, that many of these weapons, which had already been decommissioned, were once again taken out of the depots and reactivated. Both of these periods are covered in this book. It would have made no sense to divide essential accessories such as cartridge pouches and bayonets, which represent their own areas of collection, between the two volumes and so both are dealt with in this second volume, which also includes chapters on the target weapons and âfencingâ rifles that have hitherto been neglected. This volume concludes the trilogy on Imperial German firearms that began with the book: âRifle and Carbine 98â.Overseas clients please note: Due to excessively high wrapped weight shipping is weighted on this title.

The First World War saw the birth of Germanyâs mountain troopsâ"elite units forged for the extremes of alpine warfare. From ski reconnaissance in the icy Vosges to hauling artillery across the dizzying Dolomites, and tracking enemies through Romaniaâs impassable Carpathians, these soldiers defied both foe and nature, facing avalanches, frost, and rock falls. This comprehensive account explores their development, tactics, and operations, with a focus on the Dolomites (1915) and the Isonzo (1917). Eyewitness reports bring daily life in the mountains vividly to life, while uniforms, equipment, and previously unseen objects are illustrated across 500+ pages. Maps, contemporary photographs, and detailed documentation from Bavarian and Rastatt military collections complement extensive annotations, bibliographies, and appendices, making this a definitive resource on Germanyâs first high-alpine warriors.

More than 1,400 magnificent colour photographs illustrate the full range of clothing and insignia, from lowly private to lofty field marshal. This book includes not only detailed descriptions of all the garments worn in the German army during the war, but also of the special uniforms and insignia of each branch of service. This fascinating collection of photographs of original pieces is supplemented by 400 contemporary wartime photographs showing clearly how they were actually worn. Together, they illustrate the external changes in the German army between 1914 and the end of the war. The collection of the Bayerisches Armeemuseum in Ingolstadt was photographed for the first time for this book, along with some important artefacts from the Wehrgeschichtliches Museum in Rastatt. Despite the camouflage function of the field-grey uniform, it still reflected the structure of the German army in the various contingents and branches of service.Overseas clients please note: Due to excessively high wrapped weight shipping is weighted on this title.

Añadir al carritoCondición: New. Hardback 520 pages with 1000 colour photographs, contemporary B&W photographs and illustrations If a unit under attack was able to survive the attackerâs preparatory artillery fire with its machine guns intact and place them in position as the infantry attack began, it could be assumed with certainty that this infantry assault would be a bloody failure. Consequently, all available means were employed in an attempt to knock out the enemyâs machine guns. The proper use of machine guns could decide battles and give a numerically inferior defender the fire superiority necessary to successfully repulse attacks.Especially for the German Army on the western front, the firepower of the machine gun came to replace the steadily diminishing personnel strengths of the infantry regiments. As opposed to the rifle bearers, machine gunners became the true pillars of infantry combat. It was for this reason that the machine gun crisis of 1915 was all the more strongly felt, German weapons makers having failed to produce sufficient quantities of machine guns to meet the requirements of the fighting forces. It was only the advent of the new production methods devised by Prof. Romberg and the introduction of standardization that led to a tenfold rise in monthly output with production of the MG 08/15.In addition to the standard MG 08 and MG 08/15 machine guns, the book also describes the Luft-MG 08 and 08/15 variants, the MG 08/18 which ended the Maxim development series, and the very rare models Parabellum M 1913, M 1913/17, the Dreyse machine gun, the Bergmann machine gun alter Art and neuer Art models, and the Anti-Tank and Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun. The period under consideration thus extends from 1892 until the post-war period after the First World War and into the time of the Reichswehr. The authors digress to examine the Mondragà n self-loading rifle and the Mauser aircraft self-loading carbine, which though not automatic weapons, were used by the German air force as predecessors of automatic weapons. Finally the book also examines the Maschinenpistole 18, the automatic weapon introduced shortly before the end of the First World War which for the first time allowed the machine gun to be wielded as a versatile hand-held weapon.New knowledge, gleaned from the archives of the Bavarian War Archive and the Bundesarchiv/Militärarchiv, makes possible a new way of looking at production and procurement procedures, the use of machine guns by the German Army in the First World War, and the use of captured machine guns.Overseas clients please note: Due to excessively high wrapped weight shipping is weighted on this title.

Vien 2006. 1 Volume/1 . -- New-- Hardback & Dust Jacket ( 29,5 x 25,5 cm )( 3585 gr ). ------- 672 pages, 2000 photographs . ********************* '' As a result of the Austro-Hungarian settlement, after 1868 the Austro-Hungarian Empire s armed forces were made up of three separate parts: alongside the k. u. k. Army, two separate territorial armies were formed, one for Austria and one for Hungary. By the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, the Royal Hungarian Territorial Army, known as the Honvéd , had developed, in virtually every branch of arms, into a veritable Hungarian miniature version of the Common Army. The Honvéd Army, with its motto, For King and Fatherland , embraced the Hungarian soldierly traditions that had evolved from the revolution of 1848, the Napoleonic Wars and the great hussar legends. This book details the development of the small second line Hungarian army from its formation to the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918; its historical background and political significance, as well as its structure, uniforms and equipment. The subtle nuances and differences compared with the uniforms of the k. u. k. Army are illustrated by many items of headgear, uniform and equipment. Contemporary photographs, many of them never before published, and colour photographs of items from the collections of the Museum of Military History in Budapest, and a number of private collections, present a vivid and colourful picture of the lives and work of the Honvéd .
