Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Mustard Seed: A Buddhist Tale of Grief and Courage is a contemporary retelling of a traditional Buddhist story that has helped people find strength and meaning in difficult times. This retelling in comic form uses watercolor techniques and a loose, flowing style to approach sensitive material in a gentle way. The language and examples are deliberately modern-day, taking the tales meaning beyond ancient India and into the present. This is a story about a grieving mother who seeks guidance from the Buddha. Buddha skillfully guides her toward understanding the truth of impermanence, and eventually this realization helps her compassion to grow and she is able to help others. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. An itinerary-only apparently circular-furrows the universe of Kulunge Rai shamanism in Nepal. A nomadic religion, generated within the space of a double geography that weaves vivid visionary foreshortenings into the flat weft of reality. An extraordinary journey through the principal places composing the universe of shamanic reality: the "call" by the spirits of the wood. The dreams and initiatic visions; the vocational sickness and flight into the forest - mandatory steps on the path to obtaining powers; the praxis of healing and funerary rituals, centred on the experience of a "magic journey" accomplished by crossing different regions of the cosmos. Today, Lo Khyi lives in Haymarket, Virginia - far from his birthplace in Tsarang in Upper Mustang. He still has the spirit of an adventurer and still engages all he meets, reminding them that dreams can come true and that there is courage and compassion and hope to be found in the world if our hearts are open to seeing them. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. For too long Nepals Dalits have been marginalized, not just socially, economically, and politically, but from academic accounts of Nepalese society as well. This volume forms part of a welcome new trend, the emergence of Dalit Studies in Nepal, led by a new generation of Dalit scholars. It covers a wide range of issues concerning Nepals Dalits and offers a snapshot of the advances that they have madein education, in politics, in the bureaucracy, economically, and in everyday relations. At the same time the book documents the continuing material disadvantage, inequality, discrimination, both direct and indirect, and consequent mental suffering that Dalits have to face. It also touches on the struggles, hopes, and dilemmas of Dalit activists as they seek to bring about a new social order and a relatively more egalitarian society. Nepals Dalits in Transition will be essential reading for anyone interested in the past, present, or future of social change in Nepal. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Sherpa Buddhist monk Ngawang Leksh. (1913 1983), familiarly known as Auleshia name that might be approximated as Uncle Benedict in Englishoccupies a unique place in the history of Buddhism in twentieth century Nepal. At once an accomplished artist and a yogi living always in retreat, he eschewed the trappings of a Buddhist master but taught instead through his art and, above all, his personal example. In this, he embodied the ideal of transmitting the Dharma without teaching a word. As we honor the hundred-and-tenth anniversary of his birth, and fortieth since his death, with those who knew him now few, it seems appropriate to make available to all what may be recalled of his life and work. The book includes a brief history of Buddhism among the Sherpa, with new information gleaned from Tibetan written sources, the biography of Auleshi (1913-1983), in both Tibetan and annotated English translation, and and a selection of reproductions of his paintings and drawings. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Anyone who wants to know what Buddhism in the Kathmandu Valley is all about and wants to hear it from the mouth of a Newar Buddhist will need to read this book. Juhee Gubhanis study of the Mahayana-Vajrayana and, one should add, Theravada Buddhism of the Newars is a monumental achievement and a new milestone in the study of South Asian religions. It is the most detailed, comprehensive, and important work on Newar Buddhism since the publication of David N. Gellners foundational Monk, Householder, and Tantric Priest more than three decades ago, and it is safe to say that Juhee Gubhanis book will become and remain a reference for our field for the next foreseeable future. The book is a testimony to the importance Nepalese Buddhism has as a historical link between South and Southeast Asian, Tibetan, and East Asian Buddhism and to the vibrancy of Newar Studies as a key field in the study of the Himalayas and of Asia more broadly. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Madhyamakavatara or Introduction to the Middle Way (Tibetan: dbu ma la jug-pa) is a text by Chandrakirti, the seventh-century Buddhist philosopher and siddha, on the Madhyamaka School of Buddhist philosophy. It is a commentary on the meaning of Nagarjunas Mulamadhyamakakarika or The Root Stanzas on the Middle Way (Tibetan: dbu ma rtsa ba shes rab) and the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis (Dashabhumika Sutra). Madhyamaka refers to the texts that express the meaning of the middle way beyond extremes, both the Buddhas teachings of the second turning of the Wheel of Dharma and the commentaries that further elucidate their meaning. Avatara means entry or introduction. This text expresses both the profound aspect of Nagarjunas text, namely emptiness, as well as the vast aspect, the paths and the bhumis. This book includes the root verses of Chandrakirtis Madhyamakavatara and their commentary by the late Sakya Khenpo, Khenchen Migmar Tsering, as well as the outline of the commentary on the Madhyamakavatara called Dispelling Wrong Views by the great Sakya philosopher, Gorampa Sonam Sengge (1429-1489) on which Khenchen Migmar based his teachings. Bibliography. Glossary of Tibetan terms. Index. The original Dzogchen teachings are found equally in the old unreformed Tibetan schools of the Buddhist Nyingmapas and the pre Buddhist Bonpos. These teachings are substantially the same in both schools in terms of meaning terminology and practice both traditions justly claiming unbroken lineages of transmission coming down to the present day from the 8 century and even before. Moreover both schools assert that Dzogchen did not originate in Tibet itself or even in India but in Central Asia variously known as Tazik and Uddiyana. From there it was brought to India and Central Tibet by certain Mahasiddhas or great adepts where it represented an Upadesha or secret oral instruction concerning an unconditioned state of being and awareness beyond the Tantric process of transformation. This refers to the natural state of the nature of mind one's own innate Buddha nature that is beyond all time conditioning and causality. In both traditions the Nyingmapa and the Bonpo Dzogchen is regarded as the ultimate teaching of the Buddhas of three times and it is classified as the ninth or highest vehicle to enlightenment. In this volume will be found translations from the Tibetan of the Dzogchen teachings originally transmitted by the master Tapihritsa to his disciple Nangzher Lodpo at the Darok Lake in Zhang zhung or Northwestern Tibet which at that time was still an independent kingdom. Included here also are translations of the hagiographies of the principal masters of this tradition in ancient times extending back to the ultimate source of the Dzogchen teachings the Primordial Buddha Kuntu Zangpo himself. The appendices in the book present translations and explanations of the preliminary practices for this tradition of Dzogchen known as Ngondro as well as the Guru Yoga practice for Tapihritsa. These explanations proceed according to the oral instructions of Yongdzin Rinpoche Lopon Tenzin Namdak the greatest living exponent of the Bonpo tradition of Dzogchen. The texts of the Zhang zhung Nyan gyud first written down in the 8 century in the Zhang zhung language and a century later translated by Ponchen Tsanpo into Tibetan never became Termas or hidden treasure texts but represent a continuous system of oral and written transmission until the present time. Therefore the Zhang zhung Nyan gyud the oral tradition from Zhang zhung is of singular importance for the understanding of the historical development of Dzogchen in Early Tibet. 577 pp.…
