Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. In excellent condition. 150 pages, hardcover with dust jacket, 9.25" by 6.5". Text in Japanese. Yet another excellent book by contemporary Japanese photographer Kazuo Kitai, an expanded reprint of a 1989 essay in both word and image on a suburban Japanese housing complex. Kitai's work, as ever, is quietly observant, focused on mundane scenes and activities - rooms and interiors, casual portraits, transportation, sidewalks, displayed in 86 black and white plates. Deceptively modest and uncannily absorbing photos by the vastly underregarded Kitai. Uncommon - OCLC shows only three copies in American institutions.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. 88 pages, hardcover with dust jacket, 10.75" by 10.25". Superb book by contemporary Japanese photographer Hajime Yoshida, compiling his final body of work before passing away in 2005. The images are set in Japan's Yaeyama Islands, the farthest from the mainland, and show a seemingly forgotten, decaying world. Beautifully printed and designed, almost entirely comprised of moody, dense photos, solemn and darkly printed. Rare - OCLC shows only ONE copy in American libraries. In excellent condition save for light age toning to margins of cover.

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. Signed by Kitai (in kanji) to the front free endpaper. Black and white card wrappers, with the title to the upper side and spine, in a photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs and afterword (in Japanese and English) by Kazuo Kitai. Diaristic entries scattered through the book are in Japanese only. Small 4to (24.5cm x 18.5cm), pp.288, 237 black and white photographs. Taken between 1973 and 1981, these images focus on rural life in Japan, presenting a picture of day-to-day life in the country during that period. Kitai moved from his early student protest photography to these images, documenting the changes that were brought about in daily life during the 1970's, as new technologies began to displace traditional facets of Japanese life and concrete structures slowly became the norm. This is a rare and hard to find title, particularly outside of Japan. From the author s postscript: "I had no place that I can call a hometown as I had repeated moving many times since my childhood. All the same I longed for my hometown and I projected my hometown many times on pictures appeared in a developing solution under a red light in a darkroom. However, while I was taking these photographs, populations in farming villages were being absorbed into big cities continuously as a labor force and the decrease in population in farming villages was advancing. 1970s were the age in which a village community and human relation centering the agriculture had been collapsed and Japan in old and good age had finished.". Artist's statement as afterword, in English and Japanese. Exceptional book by Japanese photographer Kazuo Kitai, a photodocument of farming villages and agrarian life in Japan in the 1970's. All images are previously unpublished, selected from an archive of over 2,500 images by Kitai. Beautifully printed and laid out, with 237 full-page black and white photos - serene and deceptively simple images of a vanishing lifestyle.
