Pitman, President of the American Society of Genealogists, compiled the work, partly based on a manuscript prepared by the Rev. Dr. Frederick M. Boyd, and the notes of his wife, née Mary Eliza Railey. The Railey information includes some interesting accounts from their Natchez plantation "White Apple" including antebellum financial records and a 1867 will.
