Hogben also wrote ANCIENT AND MODERN MARVELS (1945) and also a book on navigation, all geared toward children. I was unable to find biographical information on the author. Gilbert Rumbold was a prolific illustrator in the 1930s, especially known for his Art Deco inspired illustrations. He created beautiful fashion illustrations, decorative maps and - those 1930s obsessions - motor cars, ships and airplanes. It is, however, the Savoy Cocktail book for which he is most well known. The book offered here appears less typical of his work, though he did illustrate a book called THE ORIGIN OF LIFE.
