Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -School activities alone are not always sufficient to ensure children¿s academic progress or socio-emotional development and well-being. And the time when many children typically have the least adult supervision ¿ immediately after school ¿ is also the time that they are at the highest risk to act as perpetrators or become victims of antisocial behavior.Throughout A Blueprint for Promoting Academic and Social Competence in After-School Programs, which focuses on children in grades 1 through 6, noted experts identify the best practices of effective programs and pinpoint methods for enhancing school-based skills and making them portable to home and neighborhood settings. This volume: (1) Analyzes the concepts central to effective after-school programs. (2) Offers developmental, cognitive, and social ecology perspectives on how children learn. (3) Features more than 100 exercises that develop young people¿s capabilities for academic, social, moral, and emotional learning ¿ These exercises are ready to use or can be adapted to students¿ unique needs. (4) Emphasizes young people¿s development as students and as productive members of society during middle to late childhood and early adolescence. (5) Presents explicit theory and evidence that can be used to explain the value of after-school programs for budget proposals. This important book will find an appreciative, ready audience among the program directors who design after-school curricula, the educators who implement them, the mental health and social work professionals who help staff them, and the current crop of graduate students who will create the next generation of programs.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 256 pp. Englisch. …

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Things have changed. In 1969 when the Convention for the Conservation of the Vicuña was drafted, in an attempt to save the vicuña from its tumbling decline towards extinction, both the science and the philosophy of wildlife conservation were radically different. It is thus a tribute to the prescience of those involved at the time that the rescue plan had, even through the harsh lens of hindsight, a d- tinctly Twenty First Century flavour. After all, it was predicated on the expectation that if vicuña could be saved, they would one day become a valued asset, generating revenue for the human communities that fostered their survival. Embodied in this aspiration are the main structures of modern biodiversity conservation ¿ not only is it to be underpinned by science, but that science should be of both the natural and the social genres, woven into inter-disciplinarity, and thereby taking heed of e- nomics, governance, ownership and the like, alongside biology. In addition, it should include, as a major strut, the human dimension, taking account of the affected constituencies with their varied stakes in alternative outcomes. This c- temporary framework for thinking about biodiversity conservation is inseparable from such wider, and inherently political, notions as community-based conser- tion and ultimately sustainable use.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 136 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Classical circuit theory is a mathematical theory of linear, passive circuits, namely, circuits composed of resistors, capacitors and inductors. Like many a thing classical, it is old and enduring, structured and precise, simple and elegant. It is simple in that everything in it can be deduced from rst principles based on a few physical laws. It is enduring in that the things we can say about linear, passive circuits are universally true, unchanging. No matter how complex a circuit may be, as long as it consists of these three kinds of elements, its behavior must be as prescribed by the theory. The theory tells us what circuits can and cannot do. As expected of any good theory, classical circuit theory is also useful. Its ulti mate application is circuit design. The theory leads us to a design methodology that is systematic and precise. It is based on just two fundamental theorems: that the impedance function of a linear, passive circuit is a positive real function, and that the transfer function is a bounded real function, of a complex variable.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 312 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Biomarkers hold immense promise for the early detection of disease. Unlike other disorders like diabetes and heart disease where a limited number of biological markers are at hand that allow the physician to come up with a reliable diagnosis, there are currently no such markers available for affective disorders. As in any other disease area a major goal is therefore the identification of early markers that can categorize subsets of subjects in a consistent manner. This will allow a more precise definition and categorization of affective disorders and in turn facilitate investigations of the pathogenesis of the diseases and enhance our ability for treatment. This edited volume will not only address the area of affective disorders but also other brain disorders that are neurological in nature, including Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer Disease.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 576 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The simplest method of transferring data through the inputs or outputs of a silicon chip is to directly connect each bit of the datapath from one chip to the next chip. Once upon a time this was an acceptable approach. However, one aspect (and perhaps the only aspect) of chip design which has not changed during the career of the authors is Moore¿s Law, which has dictated substantial increases in the number of circuits that can be manufactured on a chip. The pin densities of chip packaging technologies have not increased at the same pace as has silicon density, and this has led to a prevalence of High Speed Serdes (HSS) devices as an inherent part of almost any chip design. HSS devices are the dominant form of input/output for many (if not most) high-integration chips, moving serial data between chips at speeds up to 10 Gbps and beyond. Chip designers with a background in digital logic design tend to view HSS devices as simply complex digital input/output cells. This view ignores the complexity associated with serially moving billions of bits of data per second. At these data rates, the assumptions associated with digital signals break down and analog factors demand consideration. The chip designer who oversimplifies the problem does so at his or her own peril.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 500 pp. Englisch.…
