This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Geometry is probably the most accessible branch of mathematics, and can provide an easy route to understanding some of the more complex ideas that mathematics can present. This book is intended to introduce readers to the major geometrical topics taught at undergraduate level, in a manner that is both accessible and rigorous. The author uses world measurement as a synonym for geometry - hence the importance of numbers, coordinates and their manipulation - and has included over 300 exercises, with answers to most of them. The text includes such topics as:- Coordinates- Euclidean plane geometry- Complex numbers- Solid geometry- Conics and quadratic surfaces- Spherical geometry- QuaternionsIt is suitable for all undergraduate geometry courses, but it is also a useful resource for advanced sixth formers, research mathematicians, and those taking courses in physics, introductory astronomy and other science subjects. 328 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Deep-sky observing - that's looking at the stars, nebulae and galaxies - is easily the most popular field for amateur astronomers. The big problem faced by non-professional observers is what to look at - what's visible at a paticular time of year. The Deep-sky Observer's Year is a month-by-month guide to the best objects to view. Objects are given a 'star rating' according to how difficult they are to observe or image (i.e. photograph) with a particular size of telescope. The book includes many images produced by amateur astronomers, as well as photographs from NASA, ESA and ESO. There is also some background information about the objects that can be seen, along with lots of useful tips, hints, and resources (especially about what's available on the Internet) for deep-sky observers. 268 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book combines real problems of practical interest with an application of profound theory. The mathematical model is derived step by step on the basis of physical principles, and the physics behind the control problems serves as a basis for the controller design. The book demonstrates how the physics behind the mathematical models can help to successfully apply a certain control strategy. The book aims to show the practical relevance of the presented methods, methods which are often criticised as only of theoretical interest, through an examination of their industrial applications. Throughout, the book gives the unique mathematical formulation of the different disciplines involved, namely electrical, hydraulic and mechanical engineering. Yet it also points out the common mathematical structure of the different physical models. This makes it possible to transfer reliable control strategies between the disciplines. 192 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Control of nonlinear systems, one of the most active research areas in control theory, has always been a domain of natural convergence of research interests in applied mathematics and control engineering. The theory has developed from the early phase of its history, when the basic tool was essentially only the Lyapunov second method, to the present day, where the mathematics ranges from differential geometry, calculus of variations, ordinary and partial differential equations, functional analysis, abstract algebra and stochastic processes, while the applications to advanced engineering design span a wide variety of topics, which include nonlinear controllability and observability, optimal control, state estimation, stability and stabilization, feedback equivalence, motion planning, noninteracting control, disturbance attenuation, asymptotic tracking. The reader will find in the book methods and results which cover a wide variety of problems: starting from pure mathematics (like recent fundamental results on (non)analycity of small balls and the distance function), through its applications to all just mentioned topics of nonlinear control, up to industrial applications of nonlinear control algorithms. 644 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -A feature is a small modification or extension of a system which can be seen as having a self-contained functional role, such as Call Forwarding, Automatic Call back and Voice Mail in telephone services, to which users can subscribe. Feature interaction happens when one feature modifies or subverts the operation of another, and this problem has received a great deal of attention from industry and academics, especially in the field of telecommunications, where new services are constantly being developed and deployed. This volume contains refereed papers resulting from the ESPRIT FIREworks working group. The papers focus on the language constructs which have been developed describing features, and advocate a feature-oriented approach to software design including requirements specification languages and verifications logics. 244 pp. Englisch.

Here, researchers from media studies, linguistics, dramaturgy, media technology, 3D modelling, robotics, computer science, sociology etc. etc. meet. In order not to create a new tower of Babel, it is important to develop a set of common concepts and references. This is the aim of the first section of the book. In Chapter 2, Jens F. Jensen identifies the roots of interaction and interactivity in media studies, literature studies and computer science, and presents definitions of interaction as something going on among agents and agents and objects, and of interactivity as a property of media supporting interaction. Similarly, he makes a classification of human users, avatars, autonomous agents and objects, demon strating that no universal differences can be made. We are dealing with a continuum. While Jensen approaches these categories from a semiotic point of view, in Chapter 3 Peer Mylov discusses similar isues from a psychological point of view. Seen from the user's perspective, a basic difference is that between stage and back-stage (or rather: front-stage), i. e. between the real 'I' and 'we' and the virtual, representational 'I' and 'we'. Focusing on the computer as a stage, in Chapter 4 Kj0lner and Lehmann use the theatre metaphor to conceptualize the stage phenomena and the relationship between stage and front-stage. 456 pp. Englisch.
